It’s been a beautiful and wild ride. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been completing the practical element of my internship, living life as if I were a staff member on base. I worked with a ministry called Educating for Life (EFL)—a teacher training organization that helps educators understand the value of a child and see each one as God sees them.
My team and I were on the cutting edge of EFL’s mission in South Africa. We served in the townships outside of Potchefstroom—Ikageng, Promosa, and Mohadin—where we engaged in evangelism and partnered with local initiatives to clean parks and fields, helping to make these communities better places to live.
Our main objective was to introduce EFL to schools in the townships and be part of the transformation happening through education. By God’s grace, my team and I were able to organize and host the largest EFL workshop in South African history, welcoming 51 teachers and principals from 35 different schools. God moved powerfully during the workshop. One teacher said, “The students will see a change on Monday.” It was an incredible honor to be a part of that, and I’m so excited to continue working alongside them. After the training, it felt like I was in the epilogue of a novel—already looking ahead to the sequel.
About a week before I left South Africa, I was asked to pray about becoming DTS staff. At first, I didn’t want to. I only had two days to decide, and I knew it would be a big responsibility—something I didn’t feel capable of handling. But I prayed, sought counsel from friends, and felt God speak clearly: “If you continue with EFL, I will be with you. But if you staff DTS, I will grow you into who I want you to be.” So I decided to go for it—to trust that the Lord will guide and strengthen me. I’m excited to see what He will do!
