The FFSA Rugby Team Holding a Record of 5-1 under Coach Thaddaeus TLV Alexander
The FFSA Rugby Team Holding a Record of 5-1 under Coach Thaddaeus TLV Alexander

October was long, but easily one of the best months of the year. God revealed Himself in ways I never expected, and I found myself growing, learning, and seeing His hand at work daily.

The month began with a major highlight: the 7’s rugby tournament in Klerksdorp, about 40 minutes from where I live in Potchefstroom. The team I coached won 5 out of 6 games, only losing in the division final to a squad full of former provincial and top-level university players. Tough loss, but a great experience. It was good to build relationships outside the FFSA community and see the boys compete hard.

The following weekend was my faith trip. Two friends and I prayed and felt to go from the 9th–11th of October and felt the Lord calling us to Bloemfontein and Kimberley. We left Thursday morning and drove four hours to Bloemfontein. Once there, we spent time at the malls doing evangelism—sharing words of knowledge, praying with people, and encouraging believers.

That evening we joined a living-room gathering near the university with students from the Fire and Fragrance society. I wasn’t planning to preach, but the Holy Spirit had other plans. I shared a message about God’s timing—how we cannot put time limits on Him. Sometimes the breakthrough comes five minutes before you want to give up; sometimes God speaks years before the call comes to action. Afterward we prayed, worshiped, and practiced prophetic encouragement. It was powerful.

The next morning we hoped to evangelize on campus, but riots had broken out, so we stayed back. That night we saw around 100 protesters sprinting past our car with police behind them. Quite a scene—but I did get a funny video out of it.

Instead, we joined a prayer set with the university’s FFSA students. When they told us police were arresting people near campus, we didn’t test our luck. We prayed and felt led to go to the rugby stadium—one of the locations God highlighted to us earlier. As a rugby fan, I was excited. We walked around praying and decided to see if we could get inside. One security entrance was open, so I walked up and simply asked, “Hey, I’m an American visiting—could I see the stadium?” He waved us through. We spoke to the office staff and they let us walk the upper levels. Don’t ask me how, but we even ended up inside the dressing rooms at Toyota Stadium.

Most importantly, we prayed for the security guard. He was a believer, and we shared a word that God sees him as a gift. He replied, “I’ve worked here seven years, and nobody has ever said that to me before.” That hit deep. That moment alone made the detour worth it.

Afterward we felt led to head to Kimberley earlier than planned. We stopped at a mall to eat and do more evangelism. Our waitress, Willa, was a kind woman in her late 30s or early 40s. The first word we shared wasn’t quite right, but then Shanya told her, “God sees the sacrifices you’ve made that nobody notices.” Willa immediately teared up. She was a single mother of two boys, teaching full-time and waitressing to make ends meet. We blessed her with over R600 (~$35), which goes a long way here, and gave her a notebook with encouragement because we felt she loved to write—and she did. She said, “I was about to give up… I’ve been trying so hard just to keep bread on the table.” God meets people right where they are. That night we evangelized again and encouraged more believers into the Great Commission. The next day we drove home.

I forgot to mention in my last newsletter that I’ve been part of the men’s ministry on base for the past three months. I’ve had the privilege of prayer-leading devotional sets for men across the world to stand strong in Christ. I even got to teach R.A.L.E for the men back home at Faith & Victory Church in Auburn, Washington.

In the last week of October we heard from Amy Ward, one of the co-founders of Fire & Fragrance and Circuit Riders. She carries a powerful prophetic anointing. She spoke in our class, shared her testimony, and on Thursday the 30th she prayed over each of us individually. The words she gave me were strong, and I will be taking them before the Lord.

God is good, and the more I lean in, the more He shows His faithfulness.

Thank you for reading my newsletter. It is a blessing to share what God is doing in my life and here in South Africa. Please keep me in your prayers. If you feel led to support me financially, you can do so through my equipment page, which provides tax-deductible giving. The link is on my website’s homepage. Whether you support financially or prayerfully, I am grateful. And please let me know how I can pray for you as well.
