My Outreach team For Botswana 🇧🇼
My Outreach team For Botswana 🇧🇼

The beginning of this month was spent gearing up for outreach. The whole focus was learning how to lead a DTS outreach ourselves—handling finances, organizing supplies, communicating with contacts, all the practical pieces no one thinks about until they’re suddenly responsible for them. So as October wrapped up and November began, we had our noses to the grindstone, planning with our co-leaders how we were going to bring revival to Botswana. We joked that all 2.7 million people would be saved in two weeks—obviously not our real expectation—but even so, God moved far more than I imagined, and what He did out there changed my heart.

Botswana was unforgettable. We were in what we affectionately called the “Bush Bush,” staying in two different villages—one each week. The first village sat roughly 20 kilometers from the South African border. Botswana itself is a fascinating place: donkeys everywhere, used for carts and farming, and—surprisingly—sometimes eaten. I didn’t try it, but the locals insisted it was delicious; I chose to take their word for it. We slept in tents the whole time. Honestly, I slept terribly, but if that’s the worst I face for the gospel, I’ll gladly take it. Most of our ministry there was simple, faithful, door-to-door conversations—sharing the good news of Jesus with anyone willing to listen.

By the end, 90 people gave their lives to Jesus, two recommitted their faith, and we had the privilege of baptizing 16. We witnessed 65 healings, three deliverances, and planted 89 gospel seeds. God wasn’t just moving around us—He was working on my own heart too. One morning, I was watching a dung beetle pushing a ball the size of a pool ball across the sand. I asked God, “Why did You even make dung beetles?” I felt Him say, “They help keep things clean.” Then I asked, “Alright, but why do they kick it with their feet?” And I felt Him answer, almost amused, “Because it makes Me laugh.”

Despite the heat, the bugs, and the constant dust, I had a lot of fun. We met a few village kings—basically local magistrates—and my team even swam in a river that was definitely not in South Africa… until we realized we had crossed a cattle gate and, well, we were absolutely in South Africa. The second village brought its own adventure: trekking deep into the bush with our guides and then having to find our way out without them. I won’t lie—my heart rate was up—but here I am writing this newsletter, so we clearly made it.

Our final week of school was dedicated to debriefing—processing both the outreach and the school itself. It was helpful, and I picked up a lot of tools I’ll be able to use when I lead my own team debriefs in the future. But the pace felt slow for me; I tend to process things quickly. After talking through the same two weeks of outreach again and again, there was a moment where I thought, “I am debrief. I don’t know if I can debrief any more.” Still, it was good, and it was necessary.

Now the school is officially over, and we’re heading into a bit of vacation. This will be my last newsletter of the year, but Lord willing, in my next one I’ll be able to share where I’ll be leading my first outreach team.

Thank you—for your spiritual support, your financial support, and your encouragement. This year has stretched me and grown me in ways I didn’t expect, and God has been faithful through it all. A special thank-you to my financial support team: without you, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this. Every gospel seed planted, every salvation, every healing, every deliverance, every baptism—those aren’t just my fruit. They’re yours as well.
